Atlantis The Palm | Natalie Thomalla

Atlantis, The Palm has been on our bucket list for as long as we can remember. We really wanted to see and experience Dubai’s iconic Palm Island and with the Atlantis standing proud on the crescent there really is no better place. With a milestone birthday approaching, we decided it was time tor treat ourselves to a week’s stay at this amazing ocean-themed resort.

We went in October half-term. Super-hot, take-your-breath-away hot when you walk out of the hotel kind of hot, but within seconds you adjusted and enjoyed the winter sun. It was bliss. I’m all for winter sun!

Atlantis, is quite simply extraordinary. It is stunning, grand, beautiful but most certainly very impressive. The craftsmanship, at every point in the hotel is unbelievable. I remember seeing the vast centre piece in the lobby and being blown away. I knew our stay was going to be amazing from this point.

We stayed in a Queen, Palm view room which was huge! The bathroom was stunning, and my daughters loved the doors that opened by the bath into the bedroom, lost of games of peek-a-boo. Spotlessly clean, with complimentary bottled water and fruit each day and 24hr room service, we had everything we needed. We quickly unpacked and then made a plan of what we wanted to do.

We stayed on a Half Board basis and prior to arrival had booked 3 restaurants for our evening meals. We wanted to try a new restaurant each night, there were too many culinary treats to experience, 29 I believe in total! If the girls had their way they’d have happily eaten in the buffet restaurant 3 times a day, the choice was mind blowing but the best bit, as always was the varying sweet options. One day there was a huge chocolate fountain, with endless choices of sweets and marshmallows to dip in…the girls were in their element. Our favourite restaurant was Seafire Steakhouse & Bar, the steak was perfection.

As part of our board basis, we had complimentary entry to The Lost Chambers Aquarium. Every morning we would stand, amazed at the incredible animals we could see from the various glass viewing windows on our way to breakfast and most evenings we wondered into the Aquarium to see if we could spot any new marine life whilst wondering through the maze of underground tunnels. There are 65,000, incredible marine animals in The Lost Chambers Aquarium so we were never disappointed.

We also had complimentary access to Aquaventure Waterpark during our stay, you can see why it is voted TripAdvisor’s No.1 water park with over 30 water rides and slides, it is amazing. You jump on a golf buggy and within a minute or two you’re dropped off outside the entrance. We quickly decided the best option was to split up, our daughters, at the time were 3 and 10 so naturally our eldest daughter wanted to go on all the thrill-seeker slides. I wasn’t even brave enough to go on some of them! The speed, height and incline were unbelievable.

Throughout our stay we would take it in turns to take our eldest daughter to the waterpark early in the morning, when it was quieter. Whilst one of us stayed at the hotel and played between the beach and pool with our youngest daughter. We would then all have lunch and then wander down to the Waterpark late afternoon and go on the Lazy River as a family. We loved the Lazy River, the surprise of rapids added the adrenaline and a couple of times the motion made our youngest daughter fall asleep!

As a birthday treat for Marc, I booked for him and Lexi, our eldest daughter to experience the ‘Swim & Explore’ activity at Dolphin Bay. It was amazing to watch. They got to swim and interact with the beautiful dolphins and loved every minute. There was a little show at the end and thesefantastic memories were captured by a professional photographer, the pictures are an amazing keepsake.

One final experience was the zip wire. Lexi went on this and managed to take some great video footage as she whizzed through and around the Waterpark. A real thrill-seeking activity with great views!

We didn’t set foot out of the hotel throughout our weeks stay as there is so much to do and we wanted to soak up all The Atlantis had to offer. We really could have stayed another week and there were a few tears when we had to leave.

We are planning to go back; we loved every single moment. It is still Lexi’s favorite holiday! The activities they have to offer are amazing, the hotel food, service, standards and cleanliness is extraordinary, and the weather is fabulous all year round. This iconic resort and experience really is a world away from your everyday.
